About the Book

Eleven-year-old budding cryptozoologist Katherine Perkins (just "Perkins" to her friends) and her two cousins, Brenden & Perry, are living with their great uncle John Toliver Hedgepeth and the dog Hasbro, in Caspar on the coast of northern California, when things start getting more complicated: an attempted kidnapping, a Ms Peckworthy turning up wanting to take the children away to their Aunt Ricketts in the city, and a thief trying to steal a mummified mermaid from the museum run by Uncle Hedge's semi-secret Guild of St. George. After a live mermaid related to Giles Peach turns up, events carry them all first to an ice island off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, and then to the Peach family's ancestral home on the shore of Lake Windermere in England, where they must foil the plans of Dr Hilario Frosticos - plans that would despoil Pellucidar, a hidden world in the centre of the earth.
