For news sites such as this which require pesky registration, you can sometimes bypass this barrier by using a publicly-shared login combination supplied by BugMeNot:

http://www.bugmenot.com/

I haven't tried it for the above article, but I'd expect you might have to try out a number of different logins from BugMeNot before you hit on one that's still good.

(I'm offering no express warranty nor recommendation for using BugMeNot in such a manner -- I'm just stating that some people have used that facility when they didn't wish to hand over their demographic information to newspaper or magazine sites...)
