Hints of a new Chapbook

Just got an email from Subterranean Press - here's part of it:

"We're working on a few late year releases, a series of deluxe two-color chapbooks by some of the best writers in the business, including Tim Powers, Jonathan Lethem, Charles de Lint, John Scalzi, and James P. Blaylock. These chapbooks will be limited to only 500 copies (including the lettered editions) and are certain to sell out quickly."

So Blaylock might just have some new material out later this year... cool!

I found out that this chapbook is Thirteen Phantasms, and I am very disappointed that it is not a new story! Here is a link if you are interested:
http://www.subterraneanpress.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvScreen=PROD&Product_Cod...

I would not wish to tell anyone to not buy this chapbook, but would say that the BOOK Thirteen Phantasms, which is available, contains a lot of excellent stories by James (as well as the story Thirteen Phantasms) and is totally a necessary purchase. I am thirsting horribly for new Blaylock novels and stories--who will come to our rescue and publish them for us?? Help!

Dave

I'd offer to publish them myself, but I'm sure that he'd prefer to publish novels with a major press.

Blaylock says that this chapbook will have a 2,000-word introduction he wrote that he's "fairly fond of" and illustrations by J.K. Potter.

He hasn't related the specifics of the intro to me, but I'd bet $ that he will relate a little bit about Roy Squires, his real-life friend who inspired the story, and who is a character in it.

Squires is not widely known, but he was an influentual figure in Science Fiction fandom prior to his death in the eighties.  He published small chapbooks (which inspired many of the rare books publishers of fantastic fiction), and he used to sell collectible books via mailorder. He was a good friend of both Blaylock and Tim Powers.  And, he partly funded the creation of the Ashbless "Twelve Hours of the Night" hoax/joke prospectus published by Cheap Street press.

It'd be really cool if someone dug up an ad of Squires' from the back of some old pulp magazine and posted a scan of it here.
