Hello all, I have just caught wind of Blaylock (mentioned in a 20 year old Koontz book I'm reading) and through google have found myself at your doorstep.
I'll be at the bookstore tomorrow and wonder what suggestions you might have for a first read.

Thanks in advance.

I would say having worked for years for both Borders and B&N, that the odds of finding a Blaylock book on the shelf of your typical bookstore are remote at best. Having said that it is possible to find many second hand copies  on the Net. Given your liking for Koontz (an old friend of both Blaylock and Tim Powers), I would recommend "The Digging Leviathan". This will give a real taste of what makes Blaylock unique. Homunculus should be puchased if you truly enjoyed "The Digging Leviathan". If you like both of these, go with his magnum opus of high fantasy "The Elfin Ship". I also recommend the works of Blaylock's friend and colleague Tim Powers. Start with the excellent "Last Call", and follow it up with his truly fine "Expiration Date". I don't know where you live, but if you live anywhere in Southern California, go to Long Beach's "Acres of Books". This store has appeared in some of Blaylock's fiction, and is well worth visiting. Happy Reading!

The first Blaylock book I ever came across was "Land of Dreams"- I loved it so much I immediately re-read it, then looked for others. For me, no matter which one I'd have read first, it would have led me to all the others. The only one I've never read (or seen) is "The Magic Spectacles". By the way, I've now read "Land of Dreams" at least a dozen times; I never get tired of it.

Thanks for the info folks. jhagman, you're right about not finding Blaylock at Borders or B&N...whutz up...was he banned by religious fanatics or something?
I did find the Tim Powers "Last Call" that you suggested and it is at the top of my stack.
I guess I'll have to buy Blaylock online, although I may have to visit Acres of Books as I live in the SFV and it sounds like a good tip.

Thanks for your responses jhagman and isabeats.
