Very nice.  I will share an animal story as well:

I was sitting on the front porch of the house we rented in college with one of my roommates, and a little squirrel came hopping up the steps, and actually climbed on my knee.  I took the opportunity to scratch it's head a bit, it was very friendly.

Then the animal started acting as if it was going to jump onto my friend.  My friend kind of freaked out over the whole thing, and got up really fast to avoid being jumped on.  The squirrel then promptly squirreled off into the bushes, never to be seen or heard from again.

This "essay" was originally the Introduction to Blaylock's "Thirteen Phantasms". In my very humble opinion, it is amongst Blaylock's best writing, it also shows that he has much promise as a nonfiction writer. I love reading nonfiction. Craig Childs, David Darlington, and Zephine Humphrey are some of my favorites. Blaylock is as good a prose stylist as any of them.
