Title: Sylvia in The Paper Grail
Post by Patrick on 10. Nov 2003 at 01:28

I recently ran across some paintings by an artist named Dante Gabriel Rossetti.  The name caught my eye because, coincidentally, I had been re-reading some passages from THE PAPER GRAIL, and I remembered that Howard, upon his reuinon with Sylvia, is reminded "of a woman out of a Rossetti painting".

Well, here's a nice little collection of Rossetti works to give you the idea if, like me, you were unfamiliar with the reference: http://www.artunframed.com/rossetti.htm

Actually, the reason I was perusing that particular book  in the first place, was specifically to find descriptions of Sylvia.  I had just seen a movie starring Jennifer Connelly, and thought she would be wonderful if cast in a film adaptation of 'Grail.  Not really a Rossetti type, but I'd still love to see it.

Jennifer Connely is a great idea for casting Sylvia.  Any ideas for Howard?  I'd always pictured Stoat as looking like the actor Cary Elwes.

That's great! Although I've seen him in stuff lately, and he looks quite different than he did in Princess Bride--not nearly as svelte and raffish.

A bit off the subject, but speaking of the Princess Bride...  Mandy Patinkin's portrayal of Inigo Montoya was absolutely superb!

Inigo Montoya:  Hello!  My name is Inigo Montoya!
You killed my father!  Prepare to die!

Count Rugen:    Stop saying that!

Inigo Montoya:  Hello!  My name is Inigo Montoya!
You killed my father!  Prepare to die!

Count Rugen:    No!

Inigo Montoya:  Offer me money.

Count Rugen:    Yes.

Inigo Montoya:  Power too.  Promise me that.

Count Rugen:    All that I have, and more!  Please!

Inigo Montoya:  Offer me everything I ask for.

Count Rugen:    Anything you want!

Inigo Montoya:  I want my father back, you son of a
                         bitch!

Hmm...  Son of a pregnant dog isn't exactly what he said.  I forgot for a moment that this is a rated G forum with filters.  :)

That puzzled me for a moment also, but I've adjusted the filters to allow it.

That reminds me of the time I was posting a note on another board about a recent book by Michael Moorcock, and had it appear as "Michael Moorthingy". Very baffling for a few seconds.
