GhostintheShell GITS SAC DVD Cover for Anime TV Series episodesAnime Series: The first series -called Stand Alone Complex or GITS-SAC, directed by Kenji Kamiyama- has shown already in Japan and is coming to US viewers in Fall 2004. This first series focuses on the "Laughing Man" case - a mysterious cyber-crime. Different in style and history from the earlier Ghost in the Shell movie and manga, the Stand Alone Complex series features a fabulous soundtrack by Yoko Kanno, whose music was also central to the Cowboy Bebop series. A second series - called GITS-SAC 2nd Gig - is not yet available outside Japan, but with luck it will appear too.

Action-packed and visually striking, it also explores the effects of humans becoming united with machines. Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is a sequel released in 2004. The movies share characters with the anime TV series, but diverge in storyline.

manga cover second edition of Ghost in the ShellManga & Novels : The original manga by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell, has been re-released by Dark Horse Comics. It contains several pages omitted from the previous version. Another manga, entitled Ghost in the Shell: Man-Machine Interface has also been published. The manga use a different character design style from the movies or anime, and feature a lot more "virtual" reality from the point of view of characters diving into the Net. The Innocence novel was written by Masaki Yamada.

Appleseed 2004 Appurushîdo coverAppleseed (Appurushîdo): Appleseed (directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama), and Appleseed 2004 (directed by Shinji Aramaki ) are two movies based on another Shirow manga of the same name. The first movie was released in 1988. They, and the manga, are now available in English. Soundtrack to the 2004 movie includes songs by Boom Boom Satellites, Paul Oakenfold, Ryuichi Sakamoto, & others. The four volumes of the manga series are published in English by Dark Horse Comics.
